Opera Quarter Bar by Douglas Ankrah

The most exciting bar launch ever!

Open for a short period only, the Opera Quarter Bar by Douglas Ankrah will be the best bar in the world, showcasing the world’s leading bartenders – a must see for bar connoisseurs, spirit lovers and anyone who’s anyone this summer – and then it will be gone forever.

The brainchild of Douglas Ankrah (multi award winning co founder of Lab, Townhouse and author of ‘Shaken & Stirred: Douglas Ankrah’s Cocktails’), the Opera Quarter Bar will bring together the leading figures and drinks of the 90s Mixology revolution with special guest bar stars, DJs and musicians.

It will open, as the name suggests, in the Opera Quarter, Covent Garden’s historic food quarter and the West End’s hottest destination for 2009 and will be open from June 2009 to coincide with the London Bar Show.

The Bar is Douglas’s biggest project since he co-founded Lab & Townhouse. He will run it himself with assistance from some of London’s top bartenders including Roberto Valle (ex Whiskey Mist & Trader Vics), Jamie Evans (ex Townhouse, Hakkasan & Lab) and Jamie Terrell (ex Lab, Townhouse & Atlantic Bar & Grill).

Every Thursday and Friday will be special guest nights with guest star mixologist sets by the likes of Spike Merchant, Nick Strangeway, Peter Dorelli, Salvatore Calabrase, Richard Hunt, Colin Appiah and Douglas himself, as well as bar teams including the Experimental Cocktail Club (Paris) and the Fabulous Shaker Boys (Amsterdam). Additional special guest stars to be announced.

The drinks will, of course, be second to none. Drink menus will celebrate different eras i.e. Prohibition, Tiki, Disco, Hollywood Glam etc plus Douglas’s top ten best creations.

With several rooms set over 3 floors this beautiful listed Georgian building allows the team to run private functions and events without having to close to the public. This will be THE place to have a party or event in Summer of 2009, but book early to avoid disappointment.

The Door will be managed by Lincoln Hall (Zuma & Hakkasan).

The interiors will be designed by D2 Design (Callooh Callay).

Musical Director Mark Beaumont (NME) showcasing moonlighting DJ sets from well known band members and the most exciting new.

The schedule of special guest stars will be announced shortly.
